LanceDesk AI Chatbot adds a chat widget to a WordPress site that answers questions using the site’s own published content rather than a generic knowledge base.
It suits site owners who want visitors to get accurate answers drawn from posts, pages, custom post types, and WooCommerce products, while keeping control over what the bot can say through configurable rules and guardrails.
The chatbot connects to an AI provider chosen by the site owner: Groq, OpenAI, or Anthropic Claude. Each site owner supplies their own API key for the provider or providers they want to use under AI Chatbot > AI Providers, and can set a priority order so the plugin falls back to another provider if the first is unavailable.
Replies appear in a frontend chat widget, and conversation logs, analytics, and settings are managed from the AI Chatbot menu in the WordPress dashboard.

Key Features of LanceDesk AI Chatbot
Content-aware answers. The chatbot indexes published posts, pages, and any enabled custom post types, including WooCommerce products when WooCommerce is active, and uses that content as context for its replies. It can also automatically detect FAQ-style post types to improve question matching, and administrators can add external knowledge URLs so pages on other domains, such as registration sites, are pulled into the same context.
Rules and guardrails engine. Administrators can define behavior, scope, knowledge boundaries, and fallback responses through a rules engine, with a live preview of the compiled prompt before it goes live. This gives site owners a way to shape what the chatbot will and will not discuss.
Multi-provider AI with fallback. The plugin works with Groq, OpenAI, and Anthropic Claude, letting site owners choose a priority order so a chat request automatically moves to the next provider if one fails. API keys entered for these providers are encrypted before being stored.
Customizable chat widget. The frontend widget uses a shadow DOM, supports a custom avatar, and includes a live appearance preview along with a mobile-friendly layout. Page display rules and per-visitor rate limits let site owners control where and how often the widget appears.
Analytics and conversation logs. A dashboard shows key metrics, charts, top questions, provider usage, and a country breakdown of visitors. Conversation logs can be searched, viewed as threads, exported to CSV, and include safeguarding flags for review.
Session feedback and safeguarding alerts. Visitors can leave feedback when closing a session, and the plugin can flag conversations containing configured safeguarding keywords for admin attention. GDPR-oriented log retention settings and a weekly usage digest email are also included.

Good to Know About LanceDesk AI Chatbot
According to the plugin’s FAQ, only published content is indexed for chat context, and site owners can exclude specific post IDs or refresh the content cache after making changes. The developer notes that conversation logs are stored locally, including visitor messages, bot replies, page URL, a hashed IP address, optional country code, session IDs, and feedback ratings, with retention configurable in General Settings.
The documentation also clarifies that the plugin connects directly to the AI providers a site owner configures, rather than through WordPress core’s AI client, so each site supplies its own provider keys and fallback order.
