Sparxio

Updated 3 min read

Sparxio is a free AI chatbot plugin for WordPress that answers visitor questions around the clock using the content you give it, such as FAQs, documents and site pages.

It suits small businesses, online shops, agencies and anyone who wants a support assistant that can also capture leads and guide visitors toward a purchase, booking or enquiry, without relying on generic scripted replies.

The chatbot works with your own API key from an AI provider rather than a subscription billed by Sparxio, so usage is paid directly to that provider and may incur its own charges.

Supported providers include OpenAI’s GPT models, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, xAI Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Groq, OpenRouter, a locally run Ollama model, or any OpenAI-compatible API. Once connected, the chat widget appears automatically on the site, and conversations, leads and settings are managed from the Sparxio menu in the WordPress dashboard.

Key Features of Sparxio

Choice of AI providers. Connect OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, xAI, DeepSeek, Mistral, Groq, OpenRouter, a local Ollama model, or another OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and switch providers at any time without losing the knowledge base or settings. A backup provider can also be set so the chatbot keeps answering if the main one fails.

Knowledge base training. Teach the chatbot about the business by adding FAQs, uploading PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD or CSV files, or importing web pages and sitemaps. Answers are grounded in this content rather than generic responses.

Grounded answers. An option called Only answer from what you know is on by default, limiting the chatbot to facts it has actually been given, such as prices, phone numbers or policies. When it lacks an answer, it says so instead of inventing details.

Lead capture and chat logs. The chat can ask visitors for their name, email and phone number after a chosen number of messages, with collected leads viewable and exportable as CSV from Sparxio > Leads. Every conversation is also logged with details such as device and page visited.

Branding and appearance control. The widget’s colors, header icon, brand name, greeting and call-to-action button can all be adjusted to match a site’s look, and no attribution link is shown unless added deliberately.

Multilingual widget. The chatbot replies in whatever language a visitor writes in, and the widget interface itself is available in 30 languages, with an option to auto-detect the visitor’s browser language.

Cost and performance controls. History limits, conversation summaries and session timeouts help keep AI usage efficient, while the widget loads after page content and runs isolated from the site’s theme for faster, conflict-free performance.

Ready-made prompt templates. Included prompt templates for sectors such as e-commerce, SaaS, travel, healthcare, education and real estate give a starting point for setting the chatbot’s tone and behavior.

How to Install Sparxio

Step 1: Install the plugin. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for Sparxio, then click Install Now.

Step 2: Activate Sparxio. Once installed, click Activate to enable the plugin on the site.

Step 3: Connect an AI provider. Go to Sparxio > AI Settings, choose a provider such as OpenAI, Claude or Gemini, paste in the API key, and click Test Connection.

Step 4: Build the knowledge base. Visit Sparxio > Knowledge Base to add FAQs, upload documents, or import pages and a sitemap so the chatbot can answer from the site’s own content.

Step 5: Match the branding. Open Sparxio > Appearance to set colors, the header icon, brand name and greeting so the widget fits the site’s design.

Step 6: Go live. Visit the site to see the chat widget active, and check Sparxio > Setup Guide for a checklist of any remaining setup steps.

Good to Know About Sparxio

Sparxio requires an API key from a supported AI provider, since no message is sent until a key is entered and a visitor starts a chat; API keys are stored in the site’s own database. The developer notes that free tiers from some providers carry rate limits, so busier sites may prefer a low-cost paid model instead.

The plugin works alongside WooCommerce as a general support chatbot. Data such as leads and chat logs is kept by default after uninstalling, though a setting under Sparxio > AI Settings > Security allows all stored data to be deleted automatically when the plugin is removed.
