EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang

Updated 3 min read

EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang is a free plugin for WordPress sites that already run Polylang to manage multiple languages. It lets anyone who can edit a post, page, custom post type or term generate Polylang translations into every configured language directly from the edit screen, without leaving the dashboard.

It suits site owners who want to publish multilingual content without typing out each translation by hand or hiring a translator for routine pages.

Translation is handled by OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 Nano model, using an API key that the site owner creates and pays for directly through their own OpenAI account; the plugin itself carries no subscription or translation limit.

After an administrator saves the key under Languages > AI Settings, an editor opens a published item, ticks the target languages in the AI Translation box and starts the job, which runs in the background on the server. The finished translations appear in Polylang shortly after, already linked to the original and ready to show in the language switcher.

Key Features of EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang

One-click translation from the editor. From an open post, page or term, editors can tick several target languages and start a single translation run that produces all of them at once, using the languages already configured in Polylang.

Works with posts, pages and terms. The plugin translates the title, content, excerpt and slug of posts, pages and the custom post types enabled for translation in Polylang, plus the name, description and slug of categories, tags and other taxonomies.

Preserves structure in both editors. It supports the block editor and the classic editor alike, keeping block markup, HTML tags and links untouched so that only the actual text changes during translation.

Layouts carried over for page builders. On Elementor and Bricks pages, the layout is copied into the new translation unchanged, so the structure is ready and the text can be translated inside the builder itself.

Change detection for re-translation. When the original content is edited again, a new run only sends the fields that actually changed to OpenAI, leaving the rest as is, which keeps repeated translations quicker and cheaper.

Custom instructions per translation. Editors can add their own instructions in the AI Translation box, for example to keep brand names untranslated or to use a formal tone, and these apply to that specific run.

Status tracking and dashboard. A status column and filter appear in the post list, and a dedicated dashboard under Languages > AI Translation shows overall coverage and recent translation activity across the site.

Preflight checks and logs. Before a run starts, the plugin checks for common blockers such as a missing API key, missing languages, or blocked background jobs, and reports problems through an error log and debug log under the Support tab.

How to Install EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang

Step 1: Set up Polylang. Install and activate Polylang, then add the languages the site needs under Languages > Languages.

Step 2: Install EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang. In the dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 3: Create an OpenAI API key. Create an API key in an OpenAI account and add billing details, since OpenAI charges for the translation requests the plugin makes.

Step 4: Connect the key. Go to Languages > AI Settings, paste the API key, click Test connection and save; the post types and taxonomies available for translation are the ones already enabled in Polylang.

Step 5: Translate content. Open a published post, page or term, tick the target languages in the AI Translation box, add instructions if needed, and click Start Translation.

Step 6: Review the result. Follow progress in the box or on the Languages > AI Translation dashboard, then open the finished translation in the editor to check it.

Good to Know About EPICWP AI Translation for Polylang

The developer notes that the plugin requires an existing OpenAI account with an API key and billing enabled, since usage is billed by OpenAI rather than through the plugin itself.

It requires Polylang, free or Pro, to supply the languages and translation links, and works with the block editor and classic editor; Elementor and Bricks layouts are copied over for translation inside the builder, and other page builders are not supported. Background jobs rely on WP-Cron or a server cron plus loopback requests to the site, which a preflight check verifies before each run.

On data handling, the developer states that content is sent to the OpenAI API only when a translation starts, with no telemetry or data sent to the plugin author. The API key is stored in the WordPress database, and logs are kept on the site’s own server.
