AIT Multilingual Translate

Updated 3 min read

AIT Multilingual Translate helps site owners turn a WordPress site into a multilingual one by scanning existing content and translating it with a choice of AI and machine translation providers.

It is aimed at site owners who want translated posts, pages, products, menus, widgets, and metadata without retyping content in each language, while keeping saved translations that can be reused as long as the source text stays unchanged.

Translation is handled by an external provider the site owner selects and connects with an API key, including options such as OpenAI, Google Translate, DeepL, Gemini, Grok, Claude, Yandex Translate, YandexGPT, Mistral AI, DeepSeek, Qwen, or Baidu Qianfan.

No provider is contacted until a scan, queue run, or on-page translation request is started, and each provider may charge for its own usage. Results are managed from the AI Translate menu in the WordPress admin, where scanned strings, queued jobs, and saved translations can all be reviewed in one place.

Key Features of AIT Multilingual Translate

Multi-provider translation. Site owners can pick from a range of AI and machine translation services, choosing whichever provider fits the content and connecting it with their own API key. Switching providers does not require reconfiguring the rest of the setup.

Saved and reusable translations. Translated strings are stored locally and served to visitors from storage rather than being requested again on every page view. A translation is only regenerated once its source text actually changes, which limits repeated calls to the provider.

Site-wide content scanning. The scanner collects text from posts, pages, products, menus, widgets, taxonomy terms, SEO meta fields, and public custom fields, giving a fairly complete view of what needs translating before any provider is contacted.

Queued background processing. Translation requests run through a queue instead of being generated live, so visitors are not left waiting on a provider response while browsing the site.

Frontend editing and Translation Matrix. Administrators can adjust saved translations directly from the frontend, and a searchable Translation Matrix offers a central place to review, edit, and manage every stored translation across languages.

Language switchers and SEO-friendly URLs. Visitors can change language through a shortcode, widget, Elementor element, or menu item, and pages can be served under directory-style URLs or query parameters for each language, with added compatibility helpers for WooCommerce product and category URLs.

How to Install AIT Multilingual Translate

Step 1: Install the plugin. From the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for AIT Multilingual Translate, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 2: Open the plugin menu. Go to AI Translate in the WordPress admin menu to access the main setup screens.

Step 3: Set languages and provider. Choose a source and target language, then select a translation provider and enter its API key.

Step 4: Scan the site. Run the scanner to collect translatable strings from posts, pages, products, menus, widgets, and other supported content.

Step 5: Process the queue. Process the translation queue so collected strings are sent to the chosen provider and saved locally for reuse.

Step 6: Add a language switcher. Place the aitmt_language_switcher shortcode, a widget, an Elementor element, or a menu item so visitors can pick their language.

Good to Know About AIT Multilingual Translate

The plugin is currently distributed as a public beta, so the developer recommends backing up and testing on staging before bulk translating a live site, particularly for WooCommerce stores. Content can be scanned and edited manually in the Translation Matrix without any provider configured; a provider API key is only needed to generate translations automatically.

Saved translations are kept in a custom database table, and API keys can be stored either in the WordPress options or defined as constants in wp-config.php. The developer also notes that debugger output and log exports mask API keys and other sensitive data.
