DecaCrew

Updated 3 min read

Running a WordPress site involves a steady stream of small maintenance jobs that are easy to overlook: broken links, images missing alt text, forgotten drafts, stale plugins, a database quietly filling up with clutter.

DecaCrew assigns ten specialized agents to watch for these issues continuously, covering technical health, security, content, SEO, media, and, when WooCommerce is present, shop orders and products. It suits site owners who want ongoing oversight without having to remember to check for problems themselves.

Rather than making changes automatically, DecaCrew turns every finding into a proposal explaining what it found and why it matters, which you review and approve or reject from the DecaCrew Approvals screen. Detection itself runs entirely on your own site without any AI.

Connecting an account with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or a compatible self-hosted endpoint is optional and only changes how suggestions are worded, plus lets certain agents draft extra text such as a refreshed post or a product description. Nothing is sent to an AI provider until you enable it and choose one, and recognizable personal details are stripped from any text before it is sent.

Key Features of DecaCrew

Approval-based proposals. Every issue an agent finds becomes a proposal stating the reason and the exact change involved, and nothing is applied until you approve it. Rejected suggestions stay away for a month instead of reappearing at the next scan.

Built-in undo. DecaCrew records how to reverse a change before applying it, so most actions can be undone with one click from the activity log. Proposals are also refused if the underlying content has changed since they were written.

Site health and security watch. Site Guardian tracks PHP errors, ranks pending updates, and flags an aging PHP version or an expiring SSL certificate. Bodyguard checks core files against the originals, watches for abandoned or vulnerable plugins, login attacks, and risky settings.

Database and media cleanup. Housekeeper clears old revisions, expired temporary data, and leftover plugin tables, exporting affected rows to your uploads folder before removal. Media Curator finds images without alt text, oversized files, and duplicates, quarantining unused files for thirty days first.

Content and SEO review. Content Pilot surfaces aging posts, half-finished drafts, and missing excerpts, while SEO Scout checks for broken links and missing titles or descriptions, writing them directly into Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, or SEOPress. Enabling 404 tracking lets it also suggest redirects for missing pages.

WooCommerce agents. Order Watch flags stalled checkouts, failing payment gateways, and unusual refund activity, while Product Keeper highlights incomplete product pages, low stock based on sales pace, and conflicting prices. Both stay inactive until WooCommerce is installed.

Support and reporting. Support Concierge gathers contact form submissions into one inbox, sorts urgent messages, and drafts replies for review. Insight Analyst compiles a weekly written summary explaining how the site is trending rather than a list of raw numbers.

Minimal visitor impact and notifications. DecaCrew adds no scripts or styles to the public-facing site, and its background work runs in small batches that pause when the server is busy. Updates arrive in a single daily or weekly summary email, which can be turned off, with no extra dashboard notices.

How to Install DecaCrew

Step 1: Install and activate. From the dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for DecaCrew, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 2: Run the setup wizard. A short wizard asks how thoroughly the crew should scan and where to send summary emails; it can be skipped entirely.

Step 3: Let the crew start working. Agents begin scanning in the background right after activation, with no account or API key required to get started.

Step 4: Review the first proposals. Check DecaCrew > Approvals to see the first suggestions and approve or reject each one.

Step 5: Connect an AI provider (optional). To improve how proposals are worded, add an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or a compatible endpoint under Settings > AI provider, where sent requests are also logged.

Good to Know About DecaCrew

According to the plugin’s FAQ, DecaCrew requires no account or API key to function, and connecting an AI provider only affects proposal wording rather than what gets detected. The developer notes one deliberate exception to the approval requirement: Housekeeper clears expired temporary data automatically once a day, though this can be disabled in its settings.

Outside of that, only requests to WordPress’s own update and integrity check services occur by default, with nothing sent to third parties unless configured. The documentation also states that WooCommerce is optional, with the shop-related agents remaining dormant without it, and that uninstalling keeps existing data unless removal is explicitly enabled in Settings > Advanced.
