Creator Assistant Search

Updated 3 min read

Creator Assistant Search is an add-on that upgrades the default WordPress search with an AI-generated overview drawn from a site’s own content. It suits site owners who want visitors to get a direct answer to their search instead of just a list of links, and it works alongside the regular search results rather than replacing them.

The plugin depends on Creator Assistant – Hub, which must be installed and configured with an OpenAI API key and a Qdrant vector database connection.

When someone searches, the query is converted into a vector embedding, matched against the most relevant chunks of site content stored in Qdrant, and those chunks are sent along with the search term to OpenAI’s chat models to produce a short answer. That answer streams progressively into an AI Overview panel shown above the search results, on both block themes and classic themes.

Key Features of Creator Assistant Search

AI Overview panel. A concise, AI-written answer appears above the standard search results, built only from the content already published on the site. If nothing relevant is found in the vector database, the panel simply does not appear and ordinary results are shown instead.

Semantic search matching. Rather than relying on exact keyword matches, the plugin finds content based on vector similarity, so results reflect the meaning of a query rather than its exact wording.

Streaming, cached answers. Responses are delivered through Server-Sent Events and typed progressively into the panel, so the page loads instantly while the answer appears a few seconds later. Repeated searches for the same query return a cached result almost immediately for about an hour.

Source attribution and language matching. The panel lists the posts used to generate its answer, and the AI response is written in the same language as the site itself.

Customizable prompt and placement. From Creator Assistant > Search, the default prompt can be extended or replaced, and the current prompt in use is always visible on the page. The automatic panel can also be turned off and placed manually using a dedicated block in block themes or a shortcode in classic themes.

Appearance controls. The color scheme of the overview panel can be set to automatic, light, or dark mode from the WordPress Customizer, and its CSS classes can be restyled from a theme stylesheet.

How to Install Creator Assistant Search

Step 1: Install and configure Creator Assistant – Hub. Set up the Hub first and confirm that the OpenAI API key and the Qdrant endpoint and API key are saved, with both connections showing a working status.

Step 2: Install Creator Assistant Search. In the dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for Creator Assistant Search, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 3: Let content get indexed. The plugin turns on the Hub’s vectorizer automatically; existing posts are indexed over time by the Hub’s hourly background process, while new or updated posts are vectorized as soon as they are saved.

Step 4: Adjust the prompt and appearance. Visit Creator Assistant > Search to review or customize the prompt used to generate answers, and use Appearance > Customize > AI Overview to set the panel’s color scheme.

Step 5: Test it on your site. Run a search once some content has been vectorized; the AI Overview panel should appear above the results.

Good to Know About Creator Assistant Search

The plugin requires Creator Assistant – Hub to be installed and configured, since it supplies the OpenAI and Qdrant connections it relies on; by default it indexes posts and pages.

According to the documentation, search queries are not logged, though the search term can briefly sit in temporary database transients for a few minutes to support feedback matching, and cached answers are stored under a hash of the query for about an hour. The developer notes the plugin works alongside page caching by marking overview-bearing search pages as non-cacheable, and that it makes no changes to theme files or existing post content.
