SearchCue is a search plugin for WordPress site owners who want visitors to find pages, products, and documents quickly, without wrestling with a local search index.
It combines instant, typo-tolerant results with the option of cited answers drawn only from a site’s own content, making it useful for stores, documentation sites, and content-heavy pages where visitors often struggle to find what they need through a standard search box.
The search and answer functionality is powered by the hosted SearchCue service rather than by a local WordPress process. After installing the plugin, a site owner connects the site to a SearchCue account, and the service crawls public content, hosts the index, and returns results and optional cited AI answers.
Search results and answers appear through a floating search launcher on the site, or through an existing search input or a link to a dedicated search page, with no local database index to maintain.

Key Features of SearchCue
Typo-tolerant instant search. Visitors see relevant results appear as they type, even when their query contains typos, which helps them reach the right page or product without retyping a search.
Document and image indexing. Search can cover PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and other supported files alongside regular pages. Text is extracted from images, and the plugin also attempts to understand image content, so pictures can surface in results even without captions or alt text.
Cited AI answers. SearchCue can generate an answer to a visitor’s question using only indexed site content and link to the pages it drew from. If the site does not contain enough information to answer, it says so instead of guessing.
Semantic matching. Search can locate relevant content even when a visitor phrases a query differently from the wording used on the page, going beyond exact keyword matches.
WooCommerce product results. When WooCommerce is active, published and catalog-visible products and their variations are indexed with prices, sale and stock status, images, categories, tags, and attributes, which can support rich product results and refinement filters.
Search lenses. Administrators can include or exclude specific URL paths so different sections of a site, or content in different languages, are searched separately or kept out of results entirely.
Search analytics. A built-in analytics view shows popular search terms, which results visitors clicked, and searches that returned nothing, giving site owners a sense of what people are looking for.
Automatic reindexing. With automatic updates enabled, changes to public pages, posts, or products are sent to SearchCue so the index reflects edits without manual reindexing. This setting can be turned off if an administrator prefers not to send change notifications, though a daily crawl still runs.

Good to Know About SearchCue
According to the plugin’s documentation, SearchCue requires an active account with the hosted SearchCue service, since search and AI answers run through that service rather than locally on the WordPress install. No theme changes or added code are needed, though the theme must call the standard WordPress wp_head function.
AI answers rely solely on a site’s indexed content and may be incomplete or inaccurate, so the documentation advises visitors to check the cited sources for important information. Because searches do not query a local database index, the plugin’s documentation notes it avoids adding search-related load to the site’s database.
