Meguro Writer

Updated 3 min read

Meguro Writer is a WordPress plugin built for media sites, blogs, and publishers who want to turn current events into published articles without manually researching and writing each one.

It discovers topics, drafts original articles, generates featured images, and posts them to WordPress according to a schedule the site owner defines, making it suited to outlets covering technology, business, finance, real estate, entertainment, politics, or local news across different countries and languages.

The plugin relies on Google Gemini together with Google Search grounding to find current topics and produce article text and images. Site owners need their own Gemini API key, obtained from Google AI Studio, which can be entered in the plugin settings or defined in wp-config.php.

Generated content, including draft articles, featured images, SEO fields, and related metadata, is created and saved directly as WordPress posts using the post type, taxonomy, status, and author the administrator selects.

Key Features of Meguro Writer

News and topic discovery. Meguro Writer uses Google Search grounding through Gemini to find current news and topics, with configurable search topics such as technology, business, finance, real estate, entertainment, politics, or local news. Duplicate source URLs and similar titles are detected to avoid repeat coverage.

Regional and language targeting. Up to 10 countries or regions can be targeted at once, with regional groups, a global mode with priority targets, and detailed options for the United States, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao treated as separate selections. Article language and search language are configured independently, so news can be sourced from one region and written in another language.

Editorial configuration. Administrators can set the media name, the AI’s role, target audience, article purpose, tone, and extra instructions. Six 10-level sliders adjust editorial selection, alongside settings for excluded topics, source preferences, minimum relevance and confidence, freshness, and article length.

Flexible publishing schedule. Each day of the week can have its own schedule with up to 15 publishing times. The Monthly Publishing Plan lets administrators override individual time slots with a specific topic, an original column, a skip action, or an extra one-time post.

Original scheduled columns. Beyond news-based articles, the plugin can produce scheduled original columns built from a fixed title, theme, writing instructions, optional reference URLs, and category, allowing recurring editorial content alongside news coverage.

Featured image generation. Gemini generates featured images at an exact pixel size or aspect ratio, optionally guided by up to three reference images. A common fallback image can be used when generation is unavailable, and the plugin can optionally prefer suitable official press or media images with source attribution.

SEO and content extras. Meguro Writer can write Yoast SEO descriptions and focus keyphrases, add summary points and source boxes, and embed X posts, Instagram posts or reels, and YouTube videos when enabled. It can also add verified official-site and social links, and split broad topics into a linked multi-part article series.

Settings backup and monitoring. Plugin settings and the Monthly Publishing Plan can be exported and imported as JSON, with the Gemini API key excluded unless explicitly included. Execution logs, failure notifications, manual post generation, and a Gemini API connection test are available for monitoring and troubleshooting.

How to Install Meguro Writer

Step 1: Install and activate. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for Meguro Writer, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 2: Add a Gemini API key. Obtain an API key from Google AI Studio and open Meguro Writer > Settings to configure it. The key can be saved in the plugin settings, though defining it in wp-config.php is recommended for better security.

Step 3: Configure languages and targeting. Set the article language, search language, and target countries or regions, along with the publishing destination post type, taxonomy, status, and author.

Step 4: Set topics and editorial rules. Define search topics, audience, tone, and other editorial settings, then build the weekly schedule or Monthly Publishing Plan.

Step 5: Test and generate. Run the Gemini API connection test to confirm everything is working, then use the manual single-post generation action to review results before turning on automated publishing.

Good to Know About Meguro Writer

According to the plugin’s documentation, Meguro Writer selects categories only from existing taxonomy terms and does not create new ones automatically, relying on a fallback term if needed. The developer notes that WordPress Cron depends on site traffic, so sites needing precise timing should use a server-level cron job instead.

Geographic targeting and article language work independently, so content can be researched from one set of regions and written in another language. The Gemini API key is left out of configuration backups unless an administrator explicitly enables that export option, and any official images used remain the administrator’s responsibility to verify for rights and usage.
