Amaso

Updated 4 min read

Amaso is a WordPress plugin built for site owners who want to understand how their content performs in search and in AI assistant answers. It reviews business profile details, local keywords and markets, checks technical and content health, and records what AI systems cite when asked relevant questions, all from within the WordPress dashboard.

The AI side of Amaso works on a bring-your-own-key basis with providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini and Perplexity. Site owners enter their own provider credentials, and processing for suggestions, business classification and citation checks is sent to that provider, which may charge for the usage.

Local scans, scoring and schema generation run without any AI key. Results, scores and citation records appear on Amaso’s own screens inside the WordPress admin, with the latest citation checks shown for the last 30 days and older results kept in the site database.

Because Amaso stores its findings locally and only contacts outside services for specific, clearly optional actions, site owners stay in control of what data leaves their site and when.

Key Features of Amaso

Local SEO and GEO Review

Keyword and market tracking. Amaso lets site owners record keywords, local markets and manual SEO ranking entries without any artificial limit on how many are tracked.

Business profile scanning. Quick and deep scans review supported site content to detect business type, location and services, and manually validated details are kept through later rescans.

Content audit and GEO score. Local and full audits produce a GEO score for each page along with suggested improvements, plus a technical health check covering key pages of the site.

Action plan and journal. A local work journal lets administrators mark actions as reviewed or verified, add private notes, and track the latest events with timestamps and user details.

Schema, Indexing and Exports

Schema and llms.txt generation. Amaso supports automatic or manual JSON-LD markup, AI metadata and public text indexes such as llms.txt, which serves as a publication format rather than a guaranteed ranking or citation signal.

Crawler and referral observations. The plugin records request-based observations of crawler and AI referral activity, recognizing inbound requests rather than proving indexing or citation outright.

CSV and JSON exports. Available datasets, including keyword, ranking and citation records, can be exported in CSV or JSON format for review outside WordPress.

Optional IndexNow submission. Site owners can opt in to notify participating search engines of public URL changes through IndexNow; this stays off by default until explicitly enabled.

AI-Assisted Checks

AI citation checks. Using a configured provider key, Amaso runs on-demand checks to see whether AI assistants cite the site for given questions, and records which websites those assistants consulted.

Local and provider-based suggestions. Amaso offers local suggestions built from its own heuristics, alongside suggestions generated through a connected AI provider when a key is supplied.

Google PageSpeed and Autocomplete lookups. A page’s technical health check can request Core Web Vitals data from Google PageSpeed Insights, and a keyword tool can pull real search phrases from Google Autocomplete, both only when manually triggered.

How to Install Amaso

Step 1: Install and activate. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for Amaso, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 2: Review your business setup. Open Amaso > Setup to check the detected business profile, public contact details and tracked queries, adjusting anything that needs correction.

Step 3: Run a local audit. Start a content audit to generate GEO scores and a technical health check, then review the suggested actions in the action plan.

Step 4: Check schema and llms output. Review the generated JSON-LD schema and any llms.txt output to confirm they reflect the site accurately.

Step 5: Add a provider key for AI checks. Before running AI citation checks or suggestions, review the data and cost disclosures, then enter your own key from a supported AI provider in the plugin’s settings.

Step 6: Leave IndexNow off unless needed. IndexNow submission stays disabled by default; enable it only if you want public URLs sent to that service.

Good to Know About Amaso

According to the plugin’s FAQ, local scans, heuristic scoring, manual records and schema or text-index generation work without any AI provider key, while AI-assisted checks rely on a site owner’s own provider credentials and that provider’s billing.

The developer notes that both an active compatible alternate edition and Amaso cannot run at once, since only one runtime loads at a time, with an admin notice explaining which is active. Server requirements include WordPress, PHP, and either MySQL or MariaDB, and runtime also depends on hosting capacity, WordPress cron execution and the availability of the chosen AI provider.

Data such as keywords, rankings, citation records, schema definitions, business profiles and the action plan journal is stored in the site’s own WordPress database tables and options, and is retained by default unless an explicit removal option is used.
