CGW EU AI Act Labeler

Updated 3 min read

CGW EU AI Act Labeler helps WordPress site owners meet the transparency requirements of Article 50 of the EU AI Act. It lets editorial teams record how much artificial intelligence went into a piece of content and then displays a matching notice where visitors will actually see it, rather than relying on a single blanket statement elsewhere on the site.

The plugin covers the technical side of labeling only; it does not decide which content legally needs a disclosure and is not a substitute for legal advice.

The core labeling and notice display run entirely on the site’s own server, with no external connections, scripts or cookies by default. The plugin can also scan the media library for technical signs of AI generation by reading metadata embedded in image, audio, video and PDF files, producing a transparency score rather than a simple yes or no answer.

Results and disclosure notices appear directly on posts, pages and media throughout the site, as well as in a dedicated overview screen inside the WordPress dashboard.

Key Features of CGW EU AI Act Labeler

Four disclosure levels. Content can be marked as no AI involvement, AI-assisted, AI-generated, or AI-generated and human-reviewed. Each level has its own text, color and icon, all of which can be customized in the settings.

Notices placed on the content itself. Instead of one footer-wide statement, notices appear directly with the relevant item: a colored caption below AI-labeled media, a notice above text content, and a notice box at the start of posts that use a featured image. This applies across classic markup, Gutenberg blocks and galleries.

Four notice formats with live preview. Notices can be shown as a banner, inline text, badge or modal dialog, with a live preview in the settings that updates before saving.

Local AI media analysis with a transparent score. The media library can be scanned for AI-generation signals found in provenance fields, generator metadata, software and encoder tags, and other file details, each weighted by reliability. The result is a score from 0 to 100 with a confidence level, and every suggestion shows the signals behind it so the reasoning stays visible.

Configurable automatic labeling threshold. Media is only labeled automatically above a configurable score (70 by default) and only when at least one structured metadata signal is present, so weak clues like file names or titles alone cannot trigger a disclosure. Existing disclosures are never overwritten.

Compliance dashboard and content overview. A dashboard shows an overall label score, a traffic light rating and charts, while a dedicated screen lists every labeled post, page, media item and custom post type with filters by disclosure level.

Shortcodes for manual placement. Switching the position setting to manual placement enables shortcodes to insert notices for specific content, content types, media or custom text, giving editors direct control over where disclosures appear.

How to Install CGW EU AI Act Labeler

Step 1: Install the plugin. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for CGW EU AI Act Labeler, then click Install Now.

Step 2: Activate it. Once installation finishes, click Activate to turn the plugin on for the site.

Step 3: Configure notices. Go to EU AI Act Labeler > Settings to choose the notice format, placement position and the content types that should display disclosures.

Step 4: Scan existing media. Optionally run EU AI Act Labeler > Media scan to review images and other files already in the media library for AI-generation signals.

Step 5: Enable external detection if wanted. Under Settings > Automatic AI detection, an external provider can optionally be selected and connected with its own API credentials to add visual image analysis on top of the local scan.

Good to Know About CGW EU AI Act Labeler

The developer notes that the plugin makes no outbound connections unless the optional external visual detection is deliberately enabled with the site owner’s own API credentials. Automatic detection relies on metadata inside files, so items with no provenance data, such as screenshots or stripped images, may need manual labeling.

The plugin checks for the presence of a C2PA manifest but does not cryptographically validate its signature. Settings, disclosure levels and scan results carry over when upgrading from earlier plugin folders, though the old folder must be deleted after the new one activates. English and German translations are included.
