AI Provider for Command Code is a connector plugin for developers and site owners who use the WordPress AI Client and want a single account to reach several AI model families.
Rather than adding separate keys for each provider, it plugs Command Code into the AI Client so that any plugin or theme built on that SDK can call Claude, GPT, Gemini and other leading open models through one API.
The plugin does not run its own chat interface. Instead, it registers Command Code as a provider, reading an API key from an environment variable, a PHP constant, or the Settings > Connectors screen, and forwards requests from the AI Client to the Command Code Provider API.
Claude models are sent to Command Code’s Anthropic-compatible endpoint while other models use its OpenAI-compatible chat completions endpoint, and results are returned to whichever feature in WordPress requested the generation. Using it requires a Command Code account with API access.

Key Features of AI Provider for Command Code
Live model list. The plugin fetches the current list of available models directly from Command Code’s API, so newly added models show up in the AI Client without waiting for a plugin update.
Automatic endpoint routing. Claude requests are sent to the Anthropic Messages endpoint while every other supported model uses the OpenAI-compatible chat completions endpoint, matching what the model reports it supports.
Tool calling and structured output. For models that support them, the connector passes through tool calling, JSON schema structured output, chat history, stop sequences and multi-candidate generation, letting the AI Client use these capabilities when a feature needs them.
Flexible key and setting placement. The API key and optional settings can be defined as environment variables, PHP constants, or through the Connectors settings screen, which suits sites that prefer keeping credentials out of the database.
Adjustable structured output format. When a model rejects JSON schema requests, the structured output format can be switched to a plain JSON request or turned off entirely, avoiding errors in features that ask for structured responses.
Zero data retention requests. Setting a single option adds a header asking Command Code to route requests only through upstreams that do not retain data, with the request failing rather than silently falling back if no such upstream exists for the chosen model.
How to Install AI Provider for Command Code
Step 1: Install and activate. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for AI Provider for Command Code, click Install Now, then Activate.
Step 2: Get a Command Code API key. Sign up for a Command Code plan that includes API access, since the free plan does not, and copy the Provider API key from your account.
Step 3: Add the API key. Go to Settings > Connectors, open the Command Code card, and paste in the API key, or define it as an environment variable or PHP constant if you prefer not to store it in the database.
Step 4: Adjust optional settings. If needed, set constants or environment variables to choose a preferred default model, change request timeouts, declare image input support, or adjust the structured output format.
Step 5: Start generating. Once connected, any plugin or theme using the WordPress AI Client can call Command Code’s models for text generation without further setup.
Good to Know About AI Provider for Command Code
According to the plugin’s documentation, it depends on the PHP AI Client SDK, supplied either by WordPress or by the AI plugin, and stays inactive if that SDK is missing. It adds no settings page beyond Settings > Connectors, where the API key can be entered if not set elsewhere.
The developer notes that the API key is stored on the site itself and sent only to Command Code when fulfilling a request, along with prompts, conversation history, tool definitions, or attached files supplied by the calling plugin or theme. Since Command Code does not report which models accept images, vision support is declared from a maintained list, adjustable through a configuration setting.
