KAL-AI is a plugin built for two kinds of WordPress site owners: those running LearnDash courses who want students to get instant help from an AI mentor trained on their own lessons, and those running regular content sites who want visitors to ask questions and get answers sourced from their articles, documents, and videos.
It suits course creators and publishers who would rather point an assistant at existing material than write new support content.
The plugin works through the Kal AI cloud service, which requires creating a free Kal AI account (or entering an API key) directly inside the plugin’s setup wizard. Once content is imported, whether LearnDash lessons or site articles, PDFs, and videos, Kal AI transcribes and indexes it, storing a text index and a RAG index rather than the original files, and uses that index to generate cited chat answers.
The resulting chat widget can appear automatically on course pages or any post, or be placed manually with a shortcode, and admins can preview it before opening it to visitors.

Key Features of KAL-AI
Guided LearnDash setup. A Quick Start wizard detects video fields already used on Lessons and Topics, then lets an admin pick a course and run bulk setup instead of adding links one by one. Once refreshed, the course page shows the mentor without further configuration.
Answers tied to lesson content. The Learning Mentor answers strictly from the imported course material rather than general web results, and cites the specific lesson it drew from. It can also jump straight to the relevant moment in the lesson video.
Course path and progress tracking. The mentor builds an editable task-based path through the course and keeps track of which learner it is talking to and how far they have progressed. This helps guide students back on task rather than just answering one-off questions.
Video host support. LearnDash video detection works with YouTube out of the box, and with Vimeo, Google Drive, and Bunny Stream once connected on the Integrations page, including videos embedded through Presto Player.
Content Expert mode for any site. Outside of LearnDash, the plugin can import articles, PDFs, Word documents, audio, and video from any WordPress post type, using custom fields or automatic detection of the file or video referenced in a post. Multiple separate bots can be set up for different sections of a site, such as a blog or a campaign page.
Widget branding and access control. The chat widget’s colors, avatar, theme, and greeting can be customized, and it can be locked to a specific domain. Access can also be restricted to logged-in users, or opened only to WordPress admins for testing before students or visitors see it.
Advertiser mode for logged-out visitors. Visitors who have not enrolled see a teaser response with a call to action to sign up, while enrolled students receive the full mentor experience. This is aimed at converting course browsers into enrollments.
Lesson text turned into SEO content. The plugin can sync lesson text into WordPress as a polished transcript, summary, and FAQ using a dedicated shortcode, giving course pages additional readable content beyond the chat widget itself.

Good to Know About KAL-AI
According to the plugin’s documentation, a Kal AI account is required to use it, and new accounts receive a limited allowance of import hours over a set trial period. The plugin is built for single-site WordPress installations and does not support Multisite, and it requires the PHP cURL extension along with a reasonably current PHP version.
On data handling, the developer notes that imported content is transcribed and indexed on Kal AI’s servers, with only captions and search indexes retained afterward rather than the original video or document files, and that visitor chat messages are likewise sent to Kal AI so the bot can search those indexes and reply.
