Perxel AI Translate is built for WordPress sites running WPML that need to translate large amounts of content without burning through WPML’s own AI translation credits.
It adds a bulk action to post lists so editors can select many posts at once, send them off for translation, and get the results written back into WordPress as proper WPML translations ready for review in the normal editor.
The plugin works through OpenRouter, which routes requests to the AI model you choose, including model families from providers such as Google, OpenAI or Anthropic. You need your own OpenRouter account and API key, entered on the plugin’s settings page, and OpenRouter bills usage directly since no credits are drawn from WPML.
Each translation run shows a cost and word-count estimate before it starts, and progress and history are tracked inside WordPress so a run can be closed and resumed later.

Bulk translation from post lists. Editors can tick multiple posts in any post list and send them all for translation in one run, or translate a single post from the editor toolbar. A confirm screen lets you pick the destination language and which content to include before anything is processed.
Full content coverage. Translation covers the post title, slug, excerpt and content, with HTML and page-builder shortcodes such as those from WPBakery preserved so only the readable text changes. Taxonomy terms are remapped to their existing WPML translations and the featured image is carried over.
Advanced Custom Fields support. Text, textarea and WYSIWYG ACF fields are translated, including those nested inside Groups, Repeaters and Flexible Content structures. Other ACF field types are copied over unchanged rather than translated.
Rank Math SEO field translation. When Rank Math SEO is active, its title, description, focus keyword and social meta fields are translated along with the rest of the post content, keeping SEO metadata consistent across languages.
Resumable runs with history. A translation run can be paused by closing the tab and picked up again later with a Resume action, so large batches do not need to finish in one sitting. Every run is logged under Tools > AI Translate > History until manually deleted.
Choice of AI model with cost estimates. Any model id listed on OpenRouter can be set in the plugin’s settings and checked with a Test model button that confirms it exists and shows its pricing. A batching option can combine several short posts into one model request to speed up runs, and can be turned off to process posts one at a time.
How to Install Perxel AI Translate
Step 1: Install the plugin. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for Perxel AI Translate, click Install Now, then Activate.
Step 2: Confirm WPML is ready. Make sure WPML is active with at least two languages configured, since the plugin stays inactive without it.
Step 3: Add your OpenRouter API key. Go to Tools > AI Translate > Settings and enter your OpenRouter API key, then use the Test button to confirm it is valid.
Step 4: Choose and test a model. Set the OpenRouter model id you want to use on the same settings page and press Test model to confirm it works and view its pricing.
Step 5: Start a translation run. Open a post list, select the posts to translate, choose Perxel AI Translate from the bulk actions, then pick a destination language and content options on the confirm screen before starting the run.
Good to Know About Perxel AI Translate
According to the plugin’s documentation, it depends entirely on WPML for language setup and translation linking and will not activate without it. The developer notes that translations are processed through the site owner’s own OpenRouter account rather than WPML’s built-in AI credits.
Run data is stored in dedicated database tables, and removing the plugin deletes its settings and history while leaving already-translated post content untouched. The default model is an economical Gemini Flash option, though any model listed on OpenRouter can be selected instead.
