KnowScapes AI Client places a floating chat assistant on a WordPress site so visitors can ask questions and receive answers generated by an AI provider. It suits site owners who want an on-site chat assistant without being tied to one AI service, since the plugin works identically whichever provider is chosen.
The chat can be powered by a free KnowScapes Community key, a paid KnowScapes key, or a site owner’s own key for OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, as well as any OpenAI-compatible endpoint such as a self-hosted gateway.
A free Community key can be requested directly from the plugin’s settings screen, so no commercial AI account is required to get started; using OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter instead requires an API key from that provider, which may bill usage to the site owner’s own account there. Replies appear as formatted text inside the floating chat panel, or wherever a shortcode places it, and every API key is kept server-side and only ever shown masked in the settings.

Key Features of KnowScapes AI Client
Providers and keys
Choice of AI provider. The widget can run on a free KnowScapes Community key, a paid KnowScapes key, or a site owner’s own OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter key, plus any OpenAI-compatible custom endpoint. Every feature of the plugin works the same regardless of which provider is selected.
Free key request built in. A Community key can be requested from the settings screen by entering an email address and confirming consent, with the key delivered by email and pasted into the plugin rather than sent automatically.
Separate slots for free and paid keys. The free and paid KnowScapes entries each keep their own key, so a site owner can hold both and switch between them without re-entering a key.
Placement and appearance
Flexible widget placement. The launcher can appear on every page, only on chosen content types, in either bottom corner, or nowhere at all if the chat is placed instead through the knowscapes_ai_chat shortcode in a post, page or template.
Per-page and per-device control. Specific posts or pages can be excluded from showing the launcher, and the widget can be hidden on narrow screens such as phones, or restricted to signed-in users only.
Customizable look. Site owners can pick from several launcher icons, choose a light, dark or automatic color scheme, and set an accent color to match their site.
Conversation behavior
Starter questions and page context. Buttons with suggested questions can be shown in an empty chat to encourage a first message, and page context lets the assistant answer using the title, address and text of the page the visitor is currently reading.
Readable, safe replies. Replies are rendered as sanitized formatted text with a copy button, and reasoning-capable models can show their reasoning in a collapsible block.
Configurable limits and prompt. A system prompt, a maximum reply length and a per-visitor rate limit can all be set from the settings screen to control how the assistant behaves and responds.
Transparency and cleanup
Visible AI disclosure. Every chat shows a notice that replies come from an AI and may contain mistakes; the wording can be changed but the notice itself cannot be turned off.
Clean uninstall. Removing the plugin deletes its stored options, its rate-limit counter table and its transients across every site of a multisite network.
How to Install KnowScapes AI Client
Step 1: Install and activate. In the WordPress dashboard go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for KnowScapes AI Client, click Install Now, then Activate.
Step 2: Open the settings screen. Go to the KnowScapes AI menu item in the dashboard to configure the plugin.
Step 3: Pick a provider and add a key. Select a provider such as KnowScapes, OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter, then enter its API key, or request a free KnowScapes key directly beneath the key field.
Step 4: Choose a model or agent. Once a key is entered, the list of available models or agents loads automatically; pick a different one from the dropdown if preferred, or enter one manually for an endpoint that lists none.
Step 5: Confirm consent and enable the widget. Tick the consent box, switch on the option to show the chat widget on the front end, and save the settings.
Step 6: Place the chat. By default the launcher appears in the bottom-right corner of the site; to embed the chat inside a specific post, page or template instead, use the knowscapes_ai_chat shortcode and set the launcher option to shortcode-only.
Good to Know About KnowScapes AI Client
According to the plugin’s documentation, no conversations, cookies or visitor identifiers are stored; a conversation exists only in the visitor’s browser. A visitor’s IP address is hashed into a short-lived counter solely to enforce rate limits, expiring after a couple of minutes, and is never stored as plain text.
The developer notes that the plugin itself does not control how long a chosen AI provider retains transmitted messages, since that depends on the provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Behind a CDN or reverse proxy, visitors may share one rate-limit budget unless the real client address is supplied through a filter. Two bundled front-end libraries, used for rendering and sanitizing replies, are served locally rather than from a CDN.
