EffortLess Multisite Auto Translate is built for owners of WordPress Multisite networks who publish the same content across several language sites and want translation to happen without copying and pasting between them.
Once network-activated, it watches a chosen source site for published or updated posts, pages, and custom post types, then creates or updates matching translated copies on whichever other sites in the network are set as destinations. The work runs in the background through WordPress Cron rather than slowing down the save process.
Translation is handled by an external provider you choose in settings: either OpenAI’s GPT models or DeepL, each requiring your own API key for that service, which may bill you directly for usage. On WordPress versions that support it, a built-in WordPress AI Client option can be used instead, drawing on whatever AI provider is already configured under the site’s Connectors settings rather than a key entered in the plugin.
Content is sent block by block so Gutenberg structure, attributes, and nested layouts like columns and galleries come through intact, and the resulting translations appear as regular posts on each destination site, with a status panel available right in the block editor of the source site.

Key Features of EffortLess Multisite Auto Translate
Translation Engine
Choice of translation provider. Translation can run through OpenAI’s GPT models, DeepL, or, on supported WordPress versions, the built-in WordPress AI Client that relies on a provider already configured under Connectors. Only the selected provider is ever contacted, using the API key entered for it.
Block-by-block Gutenberg translation. Each Gutenberg block is sent and reassembled individually, so block structure, attributes, and nested layouts such as columns, groups, and galleries survive the process. Classic editor content is translated as a single unit instead.
Shortcodes and HTML left untouched. Shortcodes are preserved exactly as written, attributes included, and core HTML blocks are skipped by default so only genuine text content is sent for translation.
Adjustable translation style and instructions. A Translation Style setting lets you pick literal, natural, or creative phrasing for either provider. With OpenAI, free-text Additional Instructions can also be added to every request to guide tone or formality.
Content Coverage
Posts, pages and custom post types. Any public post type can be included or excluded from translation, and existing translations of an excluded type are simply left in place rather than removed.
Categories, tags and taxonomies. Category and tag names, along with other public taxonomies, are translated and kept consistent across all destination sites.
Extra translatable meta fields. Additional post-meta keys, such as custom SEO title or description fields added by other plugins, can be listed so they get translated along with the main content.
Glossary for consistent terminology. Specific terms such as brand names or proper nouns can be pinned to a fixed translation per destination site, left as-is, or exported to a CSV file for bulk editing and re-import.
Workflow and Management
Manual and bulk translation controls. Automatic translation can be toggled off in favor of triggering translation manually from the block editor, and a Bulk Translate tool can send every existing post on the source site through translation at once.
Design and media syncing. A Sync Design tool matches each destination site’s theme, global styles, site icon, and logo to the source site, while a Shared Media Library option lets destination sites link back to one site’s media files instead of duplicating them.
Status tracking and failure handling. A Translation Status panel in the post editor and a network-wide Status tab show each destination’s progress, with failed translations retried automatically before being marked abandoned until the source post is edited again.
Cleanup and safety tools. Tools such as Clean Destinations, Flush Permalinks, and Emergency Stop help tidy orphaned translations, fix permalink issues, and halt every pending translation job immediately when needed.
How to Install EffortLess Multisite Auto Translate
Step 1: Install the plugin. From the Network Admin, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for EffortLess Multisite Auto Translate, and click Install Now.
Step 2: Network activate it. Activate the plugin from the Network Admin’s Plugins page using Network Activate, since a per-site activation will not enable any functionality.
Step 3: Open the plugin’s settings. Go to Network Admin > EffortLess Multisite Auto Translate to reach the API configuration, Site configuration, and Translation glossary tabs.
Step 4: Connect a translation provider. Choose OpenAI or DeepL as the Translation Provider, enter the corresponding API key, and use the Test API Key button to confirm it works.
Step 5: Choose source and destination sites. Select which site in the network acts as the Source Site and which others should receive translated copies as Destination Sites.
Step 6: Save and publish. Save the settings, then publish or update a post on the source site; translated copies will appear on each destination site within a few seconds or after one WP-Cron cycle.
Good to Know About EffortLess Multisite Auto Translate
According to the plugin’s FAQ, it needs WordPress Multisite to function: on a single site it installs without errors but shows no settings until the network is created and the plugin is network-activated. Using OpenAI or DeepL requires an active account and API key with that provider, entered directly in the plugin’s settings, and usage is billed by the provider rather than the plugin.
The developer notes that translated content still passes through WordPress’s normal sanitization, and that no personal visitor data is ever sent to the chosen provider, only the post content being translated. Uninstalling the plugin removes its settings, its translation-memory cache table, and the postmeta linking translated copies together.
