SectionMate MCP

Updated 3 min read

SectionMate MCP links an AI assistant to a WordPress site so it can build and edit page sections such as a hero, a pricing table, an FAQ block, or a features row, working directly inside Elementor, Gutenberg, or Spectra.

It suits site owners who want to design pages by describing what they want rather than assembling blocks by hand, while still keeping control over the result section by section.

The plugin works through a connector URL generated from its admin screen, which is added to an AI client such as Claude, Cursor, or Grok as a remote MCP server.

The site owner supplies their own AI application; the plugin does not provide AI access itself, and any usage costs are between the site owner and that provider. Every request the AI makes returns a preview inside WordPress, and nothing is written to the page until the site owner confirms it.

Because the connector signs in using the site owner’s own WordPress account, the AI can only do what that account is permitted to do, and every change it makes is recorded as if made by that user.

Key Features of SectionMate MCP

Section-by-section building. The AI can generate a full page in one go, but working one section at a time, reviewing it, and adjusting before moving on, produces more accurate results and lets a wrong direction be caught early.

Preview before saving. Every edit the AI proposes is shown as a preview and requires a separate confirmation before it is saved, so nothing changes on a page without explicit approval.

Works across page builders. Sections compile into WordPress block editor content, Elementor free element trees, or Spectra blocks, with core elements such as sections, headings, text, images, and buttons supported across all of them.

Visual feedback with Inspect. Logged-in editors get an on-page Inspect overlay where they can click a block to hand the AI a specific reference, or leave a note for it to read on its next turn, instead of describing changes in words alone.

Design from references. The AI can work from a screenshot of a preferred design, brand colors, a logo, or images already sitting in the Media Library, rather than starting from a blank instruction.

Placeholder image search. An optional tool searches Wikimedia Commons for openly licensed photographs so the AI can suggest real images with suggested alt text and licensing details instead of inventing broken image paths.

Import images by URL. A separate tool can download an image from a supplied URL into the Media Library so a page serves it locally, with a preview step before anything is actually downloaded.

One-click connector switch. The MCP connector can be turned off after a session so remote AI access is blocked while the plugin stays installed and previously built pages keep working exactly as they are.

How to Install SectionMate MCP

Step 1: Install and activate. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for SectionMate MCP, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 2: Open the plugin screen. Go to SectionMate MCP in the WordPress admin menu to access its setup area.

Step 3: Create a connector. Enter a name for the AI app being connected, such as Claude or Cursor, and click Create connector URL. Copy the URL immediately, since it is displayed only once and already includes sign-in details.

Step 4: Connect your AI app. In the AI application, add the copied URL as a remote MCP server, sometimes labeled as a connector or custom connector in that app.

Step 5: Confirm HTTPS access. Make sure the site is reachable over HTTPS; for a local site, use a tunneling tool such as Cloudflare Tunnel or ngrok.

Step 6: Start building and switch off when done. Ask the AI to build a section, review and confirm the preview, then turn off the MCP connector switch once finished to block further remote access.

Good to Know About SectionMate MCP

According to the plugin’s documentation, the connector performs a genuine WordPress sign-in through Application Passwords, so it is limited to the connected account’s permissions and every change is attributed to that user.

The developer notes that turning off the MCP connector switch is the recommended way to secure a site after an editing session, since it blocks all tool requests while keeping the plugin active and built pages intact; deactivating the plugin entirely leaves compiled content in place but also stops the Inspect overlay and annotations. The documentation also states that writing custom JavaScript through the plugin’s code block requires the unfiltered_html capability, which administrators and editors normally hold on a single site.
