Voicgen is a text-to-speech plugin that turns WordPress posts and pages into spoken audio, complete with a media player that visitors can use to listen instead of read. It suits publishers, bloggers, newsletter operators, and business sites that want to give readers a hands-free way to consume articles, including those who rely on assistive technology.
Audio is generated using neural AI voices through the Voicgen cloud service, so a Voicgen account and an API key are required rather than a key from a general AI provider.
Once connected, the plugin sends the post title, content, URL, and site domain to Voicgen’s servers to produce the narration, and the resulting audio player appears on the post automatically or wherever the accompanying shortcode is placed. Voicgen can also build short vertical videos from articles inside its own dashboard, with narration and captions generated the same way.

Key Features of Voicgen
Natural AI voices. Articles are narrated with realistic neural voices rather than robotic browser speech synthesis, giving readers an audiobook-like listening experience.
Automatic audio generation. Audio can be created automatically whenever a post is published or updated, or generated and regenerated manually from the post editor. Edits to the title, content, or excerpt trigger fresh narration when auto-generate is enabled.
Lightweight embedded player. The player loads asynchronously and is style-isolated so it will not conflict with a theme’s design or slow down page loading. It can be placed above or below content automatically or inserted anywhere using the voicgen_player shortcode.
Spoken article summaries. Voicgen can produce a short spoken summary of a longer article, letting time-pressed visitors hear the main points in under a minute.
Article-to-video creation. Posts can be turned into 60-second vertical videos from the Voicgen dashboard, complete with AI narration, word-by-word karaoke captions, and matched stock footage sized for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts. Video creation can also be set to happen automatically alongside audio generation.
Cloud hosting with no server load. Audio files are generated and cached in the Voicgen cloud rather than stored in the WordPress media library, so hosting space and server resources are not used to serve narration.

Good to Know About Voicgen
According to the plugin’s FAQ, a Voicgen account is required since audio and video generation happen on Voicgen’s servers rather than through WordPress itself. The developer notes that generating audio sends the post title, content, URL, and site domain along with the API key to Voicgen’s servers, and the player script loads from Voicgen’s own domain.
The documentation also states that only changes to a post’s title, content, or excerpt trigger regeneration, while tag, category, or featured image edits do not, and that audio can be turned off for individual posts through a checkbox in the post editor’s Voicgen panel.
