ImgChanger

Updated 3 min read

A copyright claim over a photograph is a common headache for site owners: a rights holder spots their image on your pages and asks for compensation. Deleting the picture is the usual fix, but it leaves an empty gap where the illustration used to be.

ImgChanger offers a different path, letting site owners swap the disputed photo for their own picture or a generated replacement so the page keeps its original look while the disputed file disappears from the site.

The plugin works through the media library, overwriting the attachment file in place so the same image updates everywhere it appears, in posts, pages, WooCommerce products, ACF fields, and featured images.

Generating a replacement relies on the Imgchanger service, which uses a language model to read the original image before creating a new one; this requires a license key entered on the plugin’s settings page, and a limited number of free replacements is available by requesting a trial key with an email address. Uploading your own photo instead does not require a key at all.

Key Features of ImgChanger

Two ways to replace an image. A disputed photo can be swapped either for a picture you upload yourself, which is free and needs no key, or for one generated by the service. Often a photo of the same object taken by the site owner is the simpler solution.

Side-by-side review before applying. The original and the candidate replacement are shown together so nothing changes on the site until the site owner presses Apply. This gives a chance to catch anything a generated image gets wrong before it goes live.

Automatic backup and rollback. Before any replacement, the original file and all of its generated sizes are saved. A single button restores the original byte for byte and regenerates its sizes, even after the plugin has been removed.

Works across posts, WooCommerce, and ACF. Because the attachment file is overwritten rather than re-linked, every place that already points to that image, including WooCommerce product photos and ACF fields, shows the replacement immediately without broken links.

Usage map for finding images. The plugin scans the site once to learn where each image actually appears, letting you browse by section such as projects, posts, or galleries and see where a picture is used before deciding to replace it.

Status filters and cache-safe updates. Images can be filtered by whether they still need attention, are ready to replace, or have already been changed. A version marker added to the image address after each replacement also prompts browsers and CDNs to load the new file instead of a cached copy.

How to Install ImgChanger

Step 1: Install and activate. From the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for ImgChanger, then click Install Now followed by Activate.

Step 2: Get a license key. Open ImgChanger > Settings, enter your email address, and request a trial key to receive a limited number of free replacements; paste in a purchased key instead if you already have one.

Step 3: Pick an image to replace. Go to ImgChanger > Replace images, choose the disputed photo from the media library, and press Generate to create a candidate replacement, or use the upload option to supply your own picture.

Step 4: Compare and apply. Review the original next to the proposed replacement, then press Apply to update the site; the original file is backed up automatically before the change is made.

Good to Know About ImgChanger

The plugin’s documentation notes that replacing an image never breaks existing links, since the attachment file is overwritten rather than swapped for a new one, and both WooCommerce and ACF are supported because they store pictures as ordinary media library attachments.

Files attached to non-public entries, such as form submissions or orders, are excluded from the replacement list and are never sent to the generation service, and no visitor personal data is collected. Uploading your own image is free and unlimited; generating a replacement requires a license key, and card payments for additional packs are handled by external payment services rather than the plugin itself.
