Agenistrator

Updated 3 min read

Agenistrator brings an AI agent straight into the WordPress dashboard, built for site owners who want to manage their site through conversation instead of clicking through menus.

Rather than just generating text in a box, it can plan and carry out multi-step admin tasks: creating and editing content, installing plugins and themes, managing users, checking site health, and more, all based on instructions typed into a chat window.

The agent connects to an AI provider of your choice, including OpenAI, Anthropic’s Claude models, OpenRouter, or Ollama Cloud, each requiring its own API key obtained from that provider. OpenRouter and Ollama Cloud offer free tiers, so it’s possible to try the plugin without any paid account.

Once a provider is configured in Agenistrator > Settings, a chat icon appears in the WordPress admin area where you can type requests and watch the agent work through them step by step.

By default the agent can only read information on the site; any tool that changes content or settings has to be turned on explicitly, which keeps the assistant from making unwanted changes while you get used to how it works.

Key Features of Agenistrator

Plans and executes multi-step tasks. Instead of only answering questions, the agent breaks a request like publishing all old drafts into a sequence of steps, carries them out, and reports back when finished. It can also adjust its approach if a step does not go as expected.

Keeps going on long jobs. The plugin manages PHP execution limits and provider rate limits so that lengthy, multi-step tasks keep running instead of timing out partway through.

Wide range of built-in tools. Over 100 tools let the agent handle posts, pages, comments, media, users, plugins, themes, menus, settings, and scheduled cron jobs through plain language requests. Each tool can be switched on or off individually, giving control over what the agent is allowed to touch.

Context-aware conversations. The assistant tracks token usage, recognizes when a model’s context limit is near, trims older messages, and only loads the tools needed for a given task, which helps keep longer conversations coherent and efficient.

Secure sandbox for calculations. A built-in PHP sandbox runs calculations and data transformations using a restricted list of safe functions, without reaching the rest of the server.

Choice of AI providers. Agenistrator works with OpenAI, Anthropic’s Claude models, OpenRouter, or Ollama Cloud, and multiple providers can be configured at once so you can switch between them as needed.

Read-only by default. Tools that only view data are active out of the box, while tools that create, edit, or delete content must be turned on deliberately. The agent also stays within the permissions of the WordPress account used and respects multisite boundaries.

Optional semantic search. Turning on an embedding model lets the agent find content by meaning rather than exact keywords. This is switched off by default so it does not generate unexpected provider usage.

How to Install Agenistrator

Step 1: Install and activate. From the WordPress dashboard go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for Agenistrator, click Install Now, then Activate.

Step 2: Find the chat icon. After activation, a chat icon appears in the corner of the WordPress admin area.

Step 3: Connect an AI provider. Go to Agenistrator > Settings and add a provider such as OpenRouter or Ollama Cloud using a free API key from that service, or use OpenAI or Anthropic with your own key.

Step 4: Choose a model. Select a chat model in the settings; a reasonable default is chosen automatically when you add a provider.

Step 5: Adjust tools if needed. Review the available tools and enable any write tools you want the agent to use, beyond the read-only ones active by default.

Step 6: Start chatting. Click the chat icon and begin giving the agent tasks to carry out on your site.

Good to Know About Agenistrator

According to the plugin’s FAQ, Agenistrator itself is free to use, but it depends on an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or Ollama Cloud, and these providers may charge for usage, so setting a spending limit on the provider account is advised.

The developer notes that changes made through the agent behave like manual WordPress edits, meaning posts and pages can be reverted through standard revisions, while other actions are best protected with a backup before write tools are enabled. The documentation also states that API keys, chat history, and embeddings are kept in the WordPress database, and content is only sent to the AI provider configured by the site owner. Administrator access is required to use the plugin.
